Food Allergy Testing
Allergy testing is interesting in that many people have allergies that they are not aware of. They
have gone their entire life simply dealing with symptoms such as headache or chronic congestion
and have not dealt with the discovery that could dramatically enhance the quality of their life.
Preventive Health Lab strongly encourages everyone who has not had an allergy test, or has not
taken advantage of the new technologies that exist, to go ahead and have one. It is remarkable how
many people who would never have had an allergy test finally discover how much their lives have
improved after they have discovered and dealt with the allergen. Allergies can affect many aspects
of our daily lives. For example, if you have experienced chronic congestion and have done nothing
about it there is an excellent chance you have not slept as well as you are capable of. This can lead
to lessened daytime or work production. How about time with the kids where you do not have the
energy that you desire? Preventive Health Lab has a goal to enhance the quality of patients' lives
and testing for allergies is an excellent way to accomplish this.
Allergies occur when your immune system has mistakenly identified a normally harmless substance
as a bacteria or virus. Your immune system then attacks this substance the same way it would attack
an invader. When your immune system attacks an invader, it has side effects. It can cause aches,
pains and fatigue. Think about the symptoms you experienced when you last had the stomach flu.
Many of these were caused by your own immune system and not the bacteria or virus in your
stomach.
The ELISA allergy test is vastly superior to skin prick tests and is the preferred method of utilization
at Preventive Health Lab. Do however note that ELISA will yield a false negative if the patient has
not consumed the food they are allergic to in the past three weeks. Skin prick tests don't have this
problem. However, the ELISA test will test for 190 food allergies by drawing a small amount of blood
and is less expensive. Preventive Health Lab does offer both testing methods for the convenience
and preference for you and your doctor, but recommends the ELISA method of testing.
