Orthotic Evaluation
Orthotics is a field that is concerned with the design, development, fitting and manufacturing of
devices that support or correct musculoskeletal deformities and/or abnormalities of the human
body.
Often people who have had a stroke, spinal cord injury, spina bifida, or any developmental
disability such as cerebral palsy can benefit dramatically from the use of orthotics.
Foot orthotics allow the muscles, tendons and bones of the feet and lower legs to function at their
highest potential. When appropriately fitted, orthotics can decrease pain, not only in the foot, but in
other parts of the body such as the knee, hip and lower back. They can also increase stability in
an unstable joint, prevent a deformed foot from developing additional problems, and improve
overall quality of life.
The analysis performed through Preventive Health Lab requires very little time and essentially is a
quick and painless scan of the foot. Our test results are sent out and a manufacturer creates
custom made orthotics, which are simple shoe inserts. Most patients who choose to undergo this
procedure describe the results and the decrease in chronic pain as quite dramatic. Note that it is
very important to attack this problem in the early stages, as the misalignments typically become
more profound and more painful when not treated early.
